Summary: In an era when rulers controlled the masses with oppression and fear, one young woman would stand against the tyranny and inspire a nation. The Legend of Chun Hyang is one of Korea's most enduring folktales, and now you can read about her adventures as they've never been seen before--as manga! When CLAMP (Chobits and Cardcaptor Sakura) puts their unique spin on the legend, anything can happen. Filled with martial-arts action, romance and adventure, The Legend of Chun Hyang is a gem from Japan's premier creative team.

Review: I thought that this was fantastic and had everything that made a CLAMP classic. Although unfinished, this is still a splendid piece in its own right. Despite being one of their earlier works (clearly even without knowing the release date because of artistic choices), it still follows the atypical subject they are so well known for. It is rare for mangakas to choose Korean legends as their inspiration. Yes, China, but not Korea. It was outstanding that they put their own twist on it.

The Legend of Chun Hyang comprises only three chapters, which have a connection but can be read independently. Sadly, CLAMP does not seem to continue this project. The stories are excellent and original. The cancellation of this series was definitely unfair.

But it’s okay. A classic manga tale that remains a self-contained time capsule. As short as it is and how prematurely it ended, I’m glad to see an English translation at any rate. It is a fascinating gem containing all kinds of enjoyable elements.

Contrary to many other CLAMP series I read, I can see myself picking this one up again.
